Tonight wraps up the first weekend of the Little City Player's two weekend run of a reverse-gender production of Dracula. In trying to understand why I believe in community theater groups like the Little City Players, I realized that it has something to do with why I'll watch college basketball and could care less about the pro's: it's all about heart.

Now this is not to say that NBA stars don't put their hearts into each and every minute they are on the court - I'm sure that they do. It's just a question of what motivates them. Like college basketball, community theater is all about the purity of its form (or at least the freedom to explore the purity of its form). Community theater is not measured by commercial success (though filling seats should always be part of equation). Nor is it bogged down by the concerns of career (although certainly some community theater players are hoping to graduate to bigger stages). It is really all about heart. Its about doing something for the love. It's about engaging an audience, telling a story and sharing the company of like minded individuals.

I hope that you have a chance to check out the Little City Player's fine production of Dracula on its final weekend, April 2-4. You can buy tickets in advance through the Flynn Regional Box Office or at the door the night of the show. (Show time is 8:00pm and the popcorn maker will be popping by 7:30!)

Well it only took 111 years but the Vergennes Opera House is now on Facebook! That's right, we've joined the ranks of millions as we push forward into the 21st Century. Facebook will allow us to reach a whole new group of people and communicate our mission to a wider audience. We are using our Facebook page to let people know about upcoming events and concerts and share and gather ideas about how the Opera House can better serve the community.

Check us out and "become a fan"!

It's been something of a struggle but we are close to having a new website up and running thanks to the services offered by Grassroots.org. Grassroots is a non-profit web design and hosting organization that offers free web hosting, email, web design and consulting to other qualified non-profits... like the Friends of the Vergennes Opera House!

Switching over from our previous service has not been without its issues (like having email down for over a day now...) but it will allow us to take advantage of great website tools, increase our online presence and save us a little money!

Please check back in as I will hopefully be maintaining this blog on a regular basis and we will be adding web content over the next few weeks.
