FVOH Receives $20,000 Sprinkler Grant from VT Arts Council


January 29, 2009, Vergennes, VT - Earlier this year, the Friends of the Vergennes Opera House were notified that they had been selected to receive a Cultural Facilities Grant from the Vermont Arts Council in the amount of $20,000 to help fund the planning and installation of a sprinkler system at the Opera House.

FVOH Executive Director, Jackson Evans attended an awards ceremony with Governor Douglas at the State House where he accepted a ceremonial check on behalf of the organization. Also at the ceremony he had a chance to thank to Vermont Arts Council and the Governor and to speak about what the grant and the resulting project will mean for the Little City's theater.

Cultural Facilities Grant Award Ceremony The grant will bring the organization that much closer to funding the estimated $60,000 - $70,000 project. Efforts are underway for a capital campaign to fund the rest of the costs and at least one big fundraiser is already on the books. On March 6, local super-group "Panton Flats" will perform a benefit concert at the Opera House which will include raffles and a silent auction. Sharing the stage will be up and coming singer-songwriter Justin Levinson.

The Cultural Facilities grant program is state funded program administered by the Vermont Arts Council in conjunction with the Vermont Historical Society, the Vermont Museum & Gallery Alliance, and the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation.
